Wetlands are amazing and important -

and you couldn't live without them.

What's a wetland? Any place that's permanently wet for more than a few days.

Rain falls on wetlands, and is held by plants and soil.
The rain water is filtered and slowly released through the year,
ensuring a constant supply of clean water into the rivers.
We get our water from rivers, so we need healthy wetlands.

Wetlands are home for many amazing creatures.
The frog below is just 2cm long.

This unfortunate Damselfly (a wetland insect) is
being snacked on by 2 different spiders.

Here at Hilton, wetlands hold water which slowly flows into
the supply dams. So you have benefited from a wetland, if
you have ever drunk water at Hilton College.

Can you see the brown 'fingers' above the top supply dam?
These are wetlands, and your drinking water comes from them.

There's a fine wetland on the path to supply dams -
stop and have a look when you next go that way.
