Interesting things in the Karkloof forest...

Around 70 Form 4 Geographers went to the Karkloof forest recently.
On the floor of the forest, in the deep shade, they found:

Stick insects like this one are unusual - Mr Roff had not seen
one like it in almost 20 years of exploring the forest.

Flightless insects like this one rely on excellent camouflage
to avoid being eaten. Some even move like a stick being
blown in the wind.

These boys found a Golden Orb Spider eating a grasshopper.
They are wondering if the spider also eats humans.

Don't worry guys. Golden Orb spiders are harmless to humans.
The Grasshopper, however, was not so lucky. It's red legs
are a way of frightening predators such as birds,
but I think spiders are colour blind.
