The greatest trees on earth

Trees are amazing. We eat, wear, walk on
and breathe from them every day.

Great trees of the world are everywhere -
huge trees, old trees, tall trees, trees with a hundred stories.

Here's one from our Estate:

Instead of leaves, the green stem of this Tree Euphorbia
produces its food. To stop animals eating the stem,
it's white sap is a potent poison.

Here are some of the very greatest trees on earth,
with some of their stories. Interestingly, they all grow in California.

May you see trees in a different way
from today onwards, and be inspired to visit
these magnificent trees some day.

The most massive living things on earth are Giant Sequoia
trees like these. The largest is estimated to weigh about
2100 tonnes.

Walking and sitting beneath these great silent giants is a deeply
humbling experience.

This is a Coastal Redwood. These grow on the
coast of California, and are the tallest living things.
The tallest known was discovered a year ago, and is 114 metres high.

This Bristlecone Pine has probably been growing
for at least a thousand years. The oldest known Bristlecone
is 4767 years old. Just think about that for a while...
