International Day for Biological Diversity

What a mouthful!
What does it mean?

Biological diversity, or Biodiversity for short, simply refers to the amazing range of life on Earth.

(by the way, if you want to know more about those Sea Cucumbers and
who found them, go here and look up the Larsen Expedition)

There is an almost unbelievable range of life on Earth.
And it is all connected in some way, to all other life, and
to us.

The word Biodiversity helps to express this, and reminds us
that we need to be caring for all living things, not just big
attractive ones. As we do, we are celebrating the wonder of
all created things, and simply enjoying the privilege of
being stewards of God's glorious world.

Any guesses?

Google 'Eumycetozoa' and see what you get.

There's one (not this one) that rejoices in the name of 'Dog's vomit Slime Mould'.

Can it get more bizarre?

And yet these things are part of the amazing array of life on Earth,
they have a reason for being here, and they have a vital job to do.
